Marco Rubio is the next US Secretary of State

US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Republican Senator Marco Rubio as the next Secretary of State. Marco Rubio, a senior member of the Foreign Relations and Intelligence Committee, was also a one-time political rival of Trump.

Trump said in a statement about Rubio, 'He will fight hard for our country. A true friend to our allies and a fearless warrior who will never surrender to our adversaries.'

53-year-old Marco Rubio, known as a staunch critic of China, is also a fierce critic of the Communist government of Cuba and a strong supporter of Israel. He also questioned a more assertive foreign policy towards America's geopolitical enemies. However, his current approach to foreign policy is very much in line with Trump's 'America First' policy.

Rubio was one of 15 Republican senators who voted in April in favor of other US partners, including Israel.

He also opposed a massive military aid package to aid Ukraine against Russia.

Rubio is as pro-Israel as Trump is on the war in Gaza. He said, "Hamas is a terrorist organization and it must be wiped out." America's role is to resupply Israel with military equipment to complete this task.'

Rubio is a staunch critic of China. Beijing imposed sanctions on him in 2020 for his stance on pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong.
