Waltz, a Trump confidant, has long served as a colonel in the US National Guard. And he has been seen strongly opposing China's moves in Asia and the Pacific. Not only that, he also advised the country to be prepared for a possible war in the region.

Waltz was in charge of the Chief Task Force on Republicans. While there, he said that if there is a war in the Indo-Pacific region, the US military is not as prepared as it needs to be. Not only that, this year in his book 'Hard Truth', Waltz gave five strategies to avoid a possible war with China. Among the notable ones were the provision of substantial arms to Taiwan, standing by all countries in conflict with China in the Pacific, and the modernization of US warships and aircraft.
