There is no doubt that Bangladesh's air defense system is very fragile. And for a long time we have been quite inattentive in this area for some unknown reason. Here is a general statement of Air-defense system:
01▪️ Bangladesh has literally no long-range surface-to-air missiles. Eg: S – 300, S – 400 or Patriot equivalent.
02▪️ What we are using right now is short to medium range FM – 90, QW – 2, and
MANPADS. Which is unable to deal with the modern air force.
03▪️ If the enemy attacks from high altitude, then the ability to face it is questionable. We don't even have any suitable technology to understand Missile Threats in advance.
04▪️ Due to our limited radar coverage, many gaps will be created. Especially in coastal and hilly areas. As a result, we will be far behind in identifying the exact attack damage of the enemy. Many technical errors will remain.
05▪️ To be honest, we don't have any kind of air defense Over- the – Horizon (OTH).
Managements must understand that we are vulnerable if we attack from above.
06▪️ Bangladesh has not yet developed an integrated air defense network. And there is no message anywhere about this.
07▪️ Anti – Aircraft Gun of old and Radar of Mandhata period are already obsolete and its effectiveness is negligible. Although it is still being used in key points.
08▪️ Airborne capability of our Air Force is minimal. For example, this system should have enough speed to intercept the Myanmar Air Force.
09▪️ It should be remembered that it is never possible to deal with modern threats with old systems.
10▪️ Where are BAF's air-to-air missiles, especially Beyond Visual Range (BVR)?
11▪️ Ground Air Defense with combat aircraft squadrons has yet to achieve any significant integration – considering the entire map.
12▪️ We have not yet started work on the modern warfare Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) platform. Even the intelligence and technology required for modern jamming management is far behind.
These are undoubtedly a major weakness for our air defense business.
